Namibia has sent a team of
six talented learners to compete at the 2026 Pan-African Mathematics Olympiad
(PAMO) in Côte d’Ivoire, as the country continues to promote excellence in
science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education.
The National Commission on
Research, Science and Technology (NCRST) announced that Team Namibia has
arrived in Côte d’Ivoire and is participating in the continental mathematics
competition, which brings together participants from 27 African countries.
The Namibian delegation is
being led by Team Leader Dr David Iiyambo and Deputy Team Leader Mr Michael
Munango, alongside six learners who earned their places through their
outstanding mathematical abilities, dedication and academic performance.
The team members include Ms
Leticia Kandjembo from Hage Geingob High School in the Khomas Region; Mr Simeon
Antindi from Rev. Juuso Shikongo Secondary School in the Oshikoto Region; Mr
Aio Tsuseb from Nehale Senior Secondary School; Mr Logan Izaaks from M&K
Gertze High School in the Hardap Region; Ms Bonita Moody from J.G. van der Wath
Secondary School in the Otjozondjupa Region; and Ms Mariana Chunga from Sanjo
Senior Secondary School in the Zambezi Region.
NCRST said the learners’
participation represents Namibia’s commitment to nurturing young talent and
strengthening the development of STEM capabilities among students.
The Pan-African Mathematics
Olympiad is regarded as one of Africa’s leading mathematics competitions,
providing a platform for young mathematicians to test their skills, exchange
knowledge and compete with some of the continent’s brightest students.
As Team Namibia takes part
in the 2026 competition, the learners are expected to serve as ambassadors for
the country’s efforts to encourage innovation, problem-solving and academic
excellence among young people.
NCRST has expressed support
for the team and wished the learners success as they represent Namibia on the
continental stage.
