Senegal has reaffirmed its
commitment to strengthening regional cooperation on artificial intelligence
following a series of high-level bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the
second day of the Global AI Dialogue.
Representatives from
Senegal’s Ministry of Telecommunications and Digital Affairs met with the
delegation from Côte d’Ivoire and United Nations Under-Secretary-General and
Tech Envoy Amandeep Singh Gill to discuss priorities for advancing artificial
intelligence governance in West Africa.
The discussions focused on
reinforcing the objectives of the Global AI Dialogue while identifying
opportunities to strengthen collaboration among West African countries in the
development and governance of artificial intelligence.
Key priorities included the
development of a sub-regional AI strategy, harmonization of regulatory
frameworks, capacity building for governments and institutions, and the
promotion of responsible, ethical and inclusive AI governance.
The ministry emphasized that
closer regional cooperation will be essential to ensuring that African
countries are able to shape AI policies that reflect their development
priorities and support sustainable economic growth.
Senegal said these
objectives are aligned with its New Deal Technologique initiative, which places
digital transformation, innovation and emerging technologies at the centre of
the country's development agenda.
Through its participation in
the Global AI Dialogue, Senegal continues to advocate for stronger
international and regional partnerships aimed at building digital capacity,
advancing responsible AI adoption and positioning the country as a leading
player in Africa's digital economy.
