The Africa AI Council has
validated its Two-Year Strategic Plan aimed at strengthening Africa’s
artificial intelligence sovereignty through coordinated action on talent
development, governance and innovation.
The plan was endorsed during
the Council’s second meeting, co-chaired by Rwanda’s Minister of ICT and
Innovation, Paula Ingabire, under the Smart Africa initiative.
The meeting brought together
members of the Council to advance a shared continental vision for artificial
intelligence development and promote stronger collaboration among African
countries in building sustainable AI ecosystems.
Discussions focused on key
priorities including expanding AI talent, strengthening governance frameworks
and accelerating innovation to ensure that African countries are better
positioned to develop and deploy AI solutions that respond to local needs.
The strategic plan forms
part of broader efforts to enhance Africa’s role in the global AI landscape by
supporting homegrown innovation, improving digital capabilities and ensuring
that the continent has greater influence in shaping the future of artificial
intelligence.
The Africa AI Council,
convened by Smart Africa, continues to serve as a platform for African leaders
and stakeholders to coordinate approaches to AI policy, investment and capacity
building as the technology reshapes economies and societies.
