International Scientific Panel on Artificial Intelligence played a central role
at the inaugural Global Dialogue on AI Governance in Geneva, presenting
evidence-based findings aimed at supporting governments and policymakers in
shaping the future of AI governance.
According to the United
Nations Office for Digital and Emerging Technologies, the panel presented its
Preliminary Report during the opening session of the dialogue and contributed
to thematic breakout discussions throughout the event, bringing scientific
evidence into global policy deliberations on artificial intelligence.
On the sidelines of the
dialogue, members of the panel met with digital ministers, Geneva-based
representatives of United Nations member states, diplomats and delegates to
discuss the report's findings and provide scientific insights to inform
decision-making on AI governance.
The engagement formed part
of efforts to ensure that policymakers have access to the latest scientific
evidence as governments develop frameworks to address the opportunities and
challenges associated with artificial intelligence.
The office said discussions
during the Global Dialogue highlighted the important role of science in
informing public policy, while feedback and questions from policymakers,
diplomats and other stakeholders will help shape the panel's future work.
The Preliminary Report is
intended to serve as the foundation of an ongoing process to provide
governments with accessible, up-to-date and relevant scientific evidence to
support responsible and inclusive AI governance as the technology continues to
evolve.
