The inaugural meeting of the
AI for Good Global Commission has concluded in Geneva with a call for urgent
action to expand access to artificial intelligence, strengthen trust in AI
systems and accelerate practical AI solutions that support sustainable development.
The high-level meeting,
convened during the AI for Good Summit, brought together leaders from
governments, industry, civil society and international organisations to
establish a shared agenda for ensuring that artificial intelligence delivers
benefits for people worldwide.
The Commission is co-chaired
by Rwandan President Paul Kagame and Salesforce Chair and Chief Executive
Officer Marc Benioff, with International Telecommunication Union (ITU)
Secretary-General Doreen Bogdan-Martin serving as Vice Chair.
Discussions centred on three
priority areas: expanding access to AI infrastructure, skills and
opportunities; promoting transparency and accountability to build public trust
in AI technologies; and strengthening international collaboration to accelerate
the deployment of AI solutions that contribute to sustainable development.
Participants emphasized that
governments, technology companies and other organisations involved in the
development and deployment of artificial intelligence have a shared
responsibility to ensure that AI systems are safe, inclusive and beneficial to
society.
The Commission also stressed
the need for measurable progress, stronger partnerships and greater
collaboration across the public and private sectors, academia and civil society
to address global AI challenges.
According to the ITU, the AI
for Good Global Commission will now move to the next phase of its work by
refining its priorities, establishing concrete objectives and advancing
practical actions to support responsible AI adoption.
