Microsoft is exploring new
opportunities to use artificial intelligence and digital technologies to
enhance visitor experiences at the Grand Egyptian Museum, as part of efforts to
position the landmark institution as a global example of a smart museum.
The President of Microsoft
Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), Samer Abu-Ltaif, highlighted the role of
technology in preserving and presenting Egypt’s cultural heritage during a
recent visit to the museum.
He said Microsoft’s
collaboration with the Grand Egyptian Museum has supported digital initiatives
including the visitor portal and immersive experiences that use mixed reality
technologies to bring historical artefacts to life.
Abu-Ltaif noted that the
integration of advanced technologies demonstrates that heritage preservation
and digital innovation can work together to create new ways for people to
engage with history and culture.
The next phase of
collaboration is expected to focus on the use of artificial intelligence to
create more personalised museum experiences, including tailored visitor
journeys, multilingual guidance and technology-driven recommendations based on
individual interests.
The initiative aims to
explore how AI can help transform museums into more interactive and accessible
spaces while setting new standards for digital engagement in the cultural
sector.
