Kenya has highlighted the
growing role of young innovators in driving scientific research, technology
development and national transformation at the 9th Young Scientists Kenya
National Science and Technology Exhibition.
The exhibition, which
brought together students, educators, researchers, innovators and partners, was
officially opened by Prof. Shaukat Abdulrazak, Principal Secretary for the
State Department for Science, Research and Innovation.
Prof. Abdulrazak said
initiatives such as Young Scientists Kenya play an important role in nurturing
curiosity, encouraging scientific inquiry and building the confidence of young
people to become future scientists, innovators and entrepreneurs.
The exhibition featured 153
projects from 125 schools, including participation from refugee communities,
showcasing innovations addressing challenges in areas such as agriculture, food
security, healthcare, environmental conservation, climate resilience, education
and public safety.
Speaking after touring the
exhibition, Prof. Abdulrazak praised the creativity and originality of the
projects, noting that the young participants were not only identifying societal
challenges but also developing practical solutions through science and technology.
He also highlighted the
increasing adoption of emerging technologies, including artificial
intelligence, among students, describing responsible use of such technologies
as an opportunity to enhance problem-solving, productivity and innovation.
The State Department for
Science, Research and Innovation said it will continue supporting young
innovators through programmes such as innovation academies to strengthen
Kenya’s science, technology and innovation ecosystem.
