The Ministry of Telecommunications and Digital Affairs (MTN) has organised a three-day capacity-building workshop on gender-responsive budgeting to strengthen the integration of gender considerations into planning and budgeting across Senegal’s telecommunications and digital sector.

Held at the Administrative Building, the workshop was organised through the Ministry’s Gender and Equity Unit (GEU) under the chairmanship of the Directorate of Equity and Gender Equality of the Ministry of Family, Social Action and Solidarity.

The programme brought together members of the Ministry’s Gender Equality Committee (CGE) and gender focal points from the Ministry and its supervised structures. Participants were trained on concepts, approaches and practical tools for gender-responsive budgeting within the Planning, Programming, Budgeting, Monitoring and Evaluation (PPBSE) chain.

The initiative forms part of the implementation of the Ministry’s Gender Institutionalization Plan and supports the objectives of Senegal’s New Deal Technologique, which places inclusion and equity at the centre of the country’s digital transformation agenda.

The workshop sought to strengthen participants’ ability to integrate gender equality into the design and implementation of policies, programmes and projects within the telecommunications and digital sector.

The training was supported by GIZ through its Going Digital programme as part of its assistance to the Ministry in implementing the Gender Institutionalization Plan.

The Ministry said the initiative reinforces its commitment to ensuring that Senegal’s digital transformation is inclusive and equitable, while aligning with the ambitions of the New Deal Technologique and national priorities on gender equality and equity.
