Rwanda President Paul Kagame
has joined African leaders and policymakers at the Africa Mindset Reset Forum
for a high-level discussion on the future direction of the continent and the
evolution of Pan-Africanism.
President Kagame was among
prominent African leaders attending the forum alongside former Ethiopian Prime
Minister and co-founder of the Africa Strategic Group, Hailemariam Desalegn;
Ghana’s Vice President, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang; former South
African President Thabo Mbeki; and African Development Bank President Dr Sidi
Ould Tah.
The discussion is centred on
the theme, “From Pan-Africanism to Meta-Africanism,” with participants
examining how Africa can build on the principles of dignity, solidarity and
unity associated with Pan-Africanism to shape what organisers describe as the continent’s
next chapter.
The forum is expected to
explore ways of resetting Africa’s approach to leadership, development,
education and institution-building, while encouraging new thinking about the
continent’s future.
The concept of
Meta-Africanism seeks to broaden the traditional Pan-African agenda by
examining how African countries and societies can strengthen cooperation,
rethink development models and build greater confidence in African-led
solutions.
The forum’s organisers said
the conversations are intended to encourage Africans to rethink how the
continent thinks, leads, builds and educates, while drawing on the values that
have historically shaped the Pan-African movement.
