Senegal’s Minister of
Telecommunications and Digital Affairs, Samba Diouf, has called for closer
collaboration between the government and private sector to accelerate the
country’s digital transformation and strengthen the development of the digital
economy.
The Minister made the call
during a visit to the headquarters of the Organization of Information and
Communication Technology Professionals (OPTIC), where he met with
representatives of the organisation and several actors from Senegal’s digital
ecosystem.
The meeting provided an
opportunity to recognise OPTIC’s contribution to the development of Senegal’s
digital private sector and to examine prospects for stronger collaboration
between the State and private-sector stakeholders.
Discussions focused on the
establishment of a permanent consultation framework between the public and
private sectors, as well as challenges surrounding digital infrastructure,
equipment and other major issues affecting the sector.
Diouf stressed the
importance of maintaining close engagement with private-sector actors to
stimulate innovation, attract investment and create employment opportunities,
particularly for Senegalese youth.
He also commended OPTIC and
other stakeholders within the digital ecosystem for the progress made and their
contribution to strengthening Senegal’s position within Africa’s digital
landscape.
The Minister reaffirmed the
Ministry’s readiness to support initiatives aimed at structuring the digital
sector and strengthening dialogue with private actors.
