The Federal Government of Nigeria has reiterated its commitment to strengthening digital infrastructure as an essential enabler of productivity, innovation and economic growth.

The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, made the commitment during a visit to Galaxy Backbone Limited in Abuja, where he inspected the organisation’s digital infrastructure and engaged with management on its operations, capabilities and expansion plans.

The visit reinforced the government’s position that digital infrastructure should be regarded not merely as a technology investment, but as a core component of Nigeria’s economic infrastructure.

According to the Minister, improving the efficiency of government, supporting businesses, attracting investment and enhancing Nigeria’s competitiveness in global markets will require reliable connectivity, secure digital platforms, resilient data infrastructure and strong cybersecurity capabilities.

Oyedele also highlighted the potential of the Buy Nigeria initiative to strengthen indigenous technology capacity, retain more value within the domestic economy and create greater opportunities for Nigerian technology solutions across software, hardware and digital services.

Galaxy Backbone plays a key role in providing shared digital infrastructure and secure services to government institutions across Nigeria.

The Ministry of Finance said it will continue to support strategic institutions whose capabilities can contribute to the country’s broader economic transformation.
