Members of the Global Partnership for Ethiopia (GPE) Board have commended Safaricom Ethiopia’s achievements over the past five years, highlighting the company’s rapid subscriber growth and expansion of telecommunications infrastructure across the country.

The GPE Board members made the remarks during a Town Hall session with Safaricom Ethiopia employees, where they reviewed major achievements recorded on the company’s journey and discussed milestones expected in the years ahead.

Safaricom Ethiopia CEO Wim Vanhelleputte welcomed the GPE Board members in the presence of employees and expressed appreciation for their continued support and contribution to the company’s growth and success.

Vodacom Group CEO Shameel Joosub praised the company’s rapid subscriber growth, noting that it typically takes telecommunications companies between 15 and 20 years to reach the number of subscribers Safaricom Ethiopia has achieved, while the Ethiopian operation reached the milestone in just five years.

Safaricom Plc CEO Dr Peter Ndegwa also commended the Ethiopian team for its pace of infrastructure development. He noted that the team had built, in four years, half the number of telecommunications towers that Safaricom has constructed in Kenya over 26 years.

The visit and Town Hall provided employees with an opportunity to hear directly from GPE Board members and senior leadership about Safaricom Ethiopia’s progress, achievements and future ambitions.
