Uganda has launched its
National Data Strategy to strengthen data coordination across government and
other sectors and promote a data-driven economy to support socio-economic
transformation.
The launch, held at Méstil
Hotel & Residences in Kampala, brought together representatives from
government, the private sector, academia and development partners to discuss
ways to improve the coordination and use of data.
Dr Aminah Zawedde, Permanent
Secretary at the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance, said the strategy was
developed locally through contributions from public institutions, the private
sector, civil society and academia.
“Uganda’s National Data
Strategy is homegrown, shaped by input from public institutions, the private
sector, civil society and academia, and guided by a whole-of-government
approach to managing and using data,” she said.
The strategy seeks to
strengthen collaboration among stakeholders in managing and using data,
supporting efforts to build an economy in which data contributes to informed
decision-making and socio-economic development.
