The Nigerian Communications
Commission (NCC) has engaged consumers, service providers and partner agencies
on reliable connectivity, transparent billing and consumer representation at
its 95th Telecom Consumer Parliament held in Lagos.
Rimini Makama, Executive
Commissioner at the NCC, said the forum provided an opportunity for
stakeholders to discuss issues that matter most to telecommunications consumers
and share their experiences.
The discussions focused on
reliable connections, clear billing with no surprises, and ensuring that every
consumer’s voice is heard.
Makama said the Commission
had taken steps since the previous Consumer Parliament to address consumer
concerns, including signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the
Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on SIM-related fraud, setting key performance indicators
(KPIs) for failed transactions and rolling out the Consumer Compensation
Framework.
“Since the last Parliament,
we’ve signed an MoU with the CBN on SIM-related fraud, set KPIs for failed
transactions, and rolled out the Consumer Compensation Framework,” Makama said.
She acknowledged that more
work remained to be done, stressing the importance of continued engagement with
consumers and industry stakeholders.
“There’s more to do, and
forums like this keep us focused on it,” she said, thanking everyone who
attended and shared their experiences.
