The African Union has
reaffirmed its commitment to advancing an inclusive, innovative and connected
digital Africa as Gabon hosts Gabon Digital Week alongside the 6th Ordinary
Session of the African Union Specialized Technical Committee on Communication and
Information and Communication Technologies (STC-CICT) in Libreville.
H.E. Lerato D. Mataboge,
African Union Commissioner for Infrastructure and Energy, joined the opening of
Gabon Digital Week, where Africa’s digital transformation is at the centre of
discussions involving governments, experts and partners.
The opening ceremony was
presided over by H.E. Alexandre Barro Chambrier, Vice-President of Gabon,
alongside H.E. Mark-Alexandre Doumba, Minister of Digital Economy and
Innovation. John Omo, outgoing Secretary-General of the African
Telecommunications Union, also attended.
The events provide a
platform for stakeholders to discuss Africa’s digital priorities and strengthen
cooperation to advance connectivity, digital inclusion, artificial intelligence
and digital governance.
At the AU’s STC-CICT
meeting, experts are examining these issues and preparing recommendations for
consideration by ministers on October 29 and 30.
The discussions are expected
to help shape collective action on the continent’s digital transformation
priorities, as African countries seek to advance digital development and build
a more inclusive and connected digital future.
