Namibia’s Minister of
Information and Communication Technology, Hon. Emma Theofelus, has held a
virtual engagement with representatives from Meta, Microsoft and Google,
including YouTube, to discuss opportunities for content creation and
monetisation in the country’s digital economy.
The engagement was hosted by
the United States Ambassador to Namibia, John Giordano.
According to the Ministry of
Information and Communication Technology (MICT), the discussions focused on
Namibia’s digital and creative industries, with particular attention to content
creation and monetisation opportunities.
The engagement provided an
opportunity to gain insight into the requirements and considerations associated
with enabling monetisation on major digital platforms.
It also highlighted the need
for continued engagement as Namibia seeks to expand opportunities for local
content creators in the digital economy.
The discussions come as the
country seeks to strengthen its digital and creative industries and explore
ways for local creators to benefit from opportunities offered by major online
platforms.
