Gabon has called for
stronger African cooperation on digital infrastructure, skills development and
innovation, while urging the continent to strengthen its collective voice in
global digital governance.
Minister of Digital Economy
and Innovation Mark-Alexandre Doumba made the call while addressing the
ministerial session of the 6th Ordinary Session of the African Union
Specialized Technical Committee on Communication and Information Technology
(STC-CICT6).
Doumba’s remarks focused on
the importance of connectivity and cooperation in advancing Africa’s digital
ambitions and creating greater opportunities for innovation.
His message comes as Gabon
advances its own digital transformation agenda, with the launch of 5G during
this week’s Gabon Digital Week marking a step towards the connected future at
the centre of the ministerial discussions.
The STC-CICT6 meeting
provides a platform for African countries to discuss continental priorities in
digital transformation, communication infrastructure development and the
governance of emerging technologies.
