Gabon’s Minister of Higher
Education and Scientific Research, Prof. Charles Edgar Mombo, has held
discussions with UNESCO on the proposed establishment of a UNESCO Chair
dedicated to green electricity in Africa, as part of efforts to strengthen
scientific research, innovation and skills development.
The discussions took place during
a working session between the minister and Patricio Zambrano Restrepo, UNESCO
Representative in Gabon. The proposed chair would be hosted at the National
Centre for Scientific and Technological Research (CENAREST), with UNESCO
expressing its availability to provide financial support.
The meeting also addressed
the alignment of university training with the needs of the productive sector,
with the aim of strengthening graduate employability and consolidating links
between academic institutions and businesses.
In a separate session, Mombo
met senior officials of his ministry to discuss improving administrative
performance and governance. He emphasised discipline, cohesion, respect for
hierarchy and compliance with regulatory procedures.
Among the measures announced
was the introduction of mandatory monthly activity reports to improve the
monitoring of responsibilities, strengthen accountability among teams and
measure results achieved.
The ministerial department
said the measures are intended to combine stronger international scientific
partnerships with administrative management focused on performance,
transparency and a culture of results.
