The Telecel Group has announced its comprehensive
rebranding of Vodafone Ghana to "Telecel," scheduled for completion
by the end of February 2024. This transformative initiative comes on the heels
of Telecel's acquisition of a 70% majority stake in Vodafone Ghana in February
2023
According to Telecel Group CEO, Moh Damush in
a statement, the rebranding is more than just a change of name; it signifies a
commitment to advancing telecommunications in Ghana. Damush stated, "Our objective is to offer Ghanaians
exceptional services that surpass their expectations, with a renewed focus on
innovation, quality, and customer satisfaction”.
Vodafone Ghana CEO, Patricia Obo-Nai also expressed
enthusiasm about the transition, highlighting the aim to provide a superior
network that supports both personal and business growth. The rebranding
process, set to commence in January, will culminate in a full brand reveal at
the end of February 2024, extending across Vodafone Ghana and its three
subsidiaries.
In addition to the rebranding efforts, Telecel
Group is making significant strides in expanding 4G coverage in Ghana following
the Vodafone acquisition. Deploying an additional 300 4G sites across various
regions, the telecom giant is committed to elevating the quality of the
network, aligning with a broader strategic expansion plan. The Chief Operating
Officer, Malek Atrissi, emphasized the pivotal role of the 4G rollout in
achieving sustained nationwide growth.
Presently, Ghana's mobile landscape sees only
about 15% of users utilizing 4G, with MTN Ghana dominating the market with over
67% market share. Recognizing the growth potential, Telecel is addressing
the 4G gap and leveraging the support of the Ghanaian government in its rapid
4G expansion. Regulatory measures and technology neutrality rules aim to
facilitate increased 4G deployment for competitive purposes, promoting a more
level playing field in the telecoms market.
