President Ruto awarded Ghana’s highest honour for championing Africa Climate Change

Ghana’s President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo has honoured President William Ruto of Kenya with Ghana’s highest honour, The Companion of the Order of the Star of the Volta.

Conferring the honour at a State banquet, President Nana Akufo-Addo said President Ruto was an “example of a new generation of African leaders” who have decided to insist on the application of principles of accountability and due process to all citizens no matter their status in society”.


“You've been a forceful eloquent proponent of the imperative, need to reform the international financial system, so that it achieves fairness and equity to enable African countries, to have easier access to capital to finance their development," he said.

He pointed out that President Ruto had done this no matter the complexity or sensitivity of political consequences.

“Under your leadership,” President Akufo-Addo said, “Kenya has become a shining example of a nation governed by the rule of law.”


He said under President Ruto’s leadership, Kenya has regained its place of pride at the international stage.

He also pointed out that the success of the Africa Climate Summit, arguing that the continent had made its voice heard on climate change.


"Ghana continues to applaud you for the exceptional leadership you demonstrated in convening a summit in Nairobi to define an elaborate a common African position on the green transition. The outcome of the Africa Climate Summit has, in fact, made a positive impact on the global discourse.”
