The Acting Director General of
Kenya Space Agency (KSA), Brig. Hillary Kipkosgey hosted a delegation from the
British High Commission in Nairobi, including Mr. Colin Sykes, Counsellor for
Science, Innovation, and Technology. The visit aimed to strengthen partnerships
between the United Kingdom and Kenya through collaborative initiatives on space
applications.
According to a statement on KSA's
official social media platform, LinkedIn, Brig. Kipkosgey shared insights into
the agency's activities and discussed upcoming events such as the Kenya Space
Expo and Conference. Mr. Colin Sykes outlined UK space activities and potential
areas for collaboration with Kenyan agencies.
The meeting discussed projects
being explored by the Satellite Application Catapult, Research and Innovation
Systems for Africa (RISA), and the Business Connect under the Global Alliance for
Africa, with a focus on science and innovation. Mr. Colin Sykes also
highlighted ongoing projects under Space Science and Astronomy, including the Development in Africa with Radio Astronomy (DARA) project that has been
undertaking capacity building in the space science domain.
The Acting Director General
expressed readiness to collaborate with UK agencies on the indicated projects.
Additionally, he discussed the potential for enhancing the nation's launch
capabilities and its implications for the agency and the country.
The delegation from the British
High Commission Nairobi included Caroline Nyanoti, Science and Innovation
Manager, and Kenneth Mogane, Policy and Partnerships Officer. Senior members of
staff from KSA also attended the meeting.
