MTN Ghana has organized a two-day fact-checking training workshop for over 100 journalists across the country in a bid to promote accurate and reliable reporting. The training, held through both in-person and virtual sessions, aimed to equip journalists from public and private media organizations with the latest technological tools to verify information and ensure accuracy.

Facilitated by Rabiu Alhassan, Executive Director for FactSpace West Africa, the training delved into the nuances of disinformation, misinformation, and malinformation. Participants gain valuable insights into the importance of fact-checking in the digital age, where information spreads rapidly, and the consequences of inaccurate reporting can be severe.

In an opening remarks, the Senior Manager Corporate Communications at MTN Ghana, Georgina Asare Fiagbenu, reiterated MTN Ghana's commitment to building the capacity of journalists to enable them to carry out their work professionally. She emphasized the importance of fact-checking, urging journalists to embrace it as it will help them provide factual and accurate information to their audiences.

The President of MTN Media Republic, Nana Appiah Acquaye, also expressed his appreciation to his colleagues for taking time out of their busy schedules to participate in the training sessions. He believed that the training would have a positive impact not only on participants but also on their respective news organizations.

Lead facilitator Rabiu Alhassan took participants through the various phases of fact-checking, encouraging journalists to continue practicing what they had learned from the training to stay abreast with trends within the fact-checking field.

The training forms part of MTN Ghana's Media Republic Connect Series, which aims to foster a collaborative relationship between the media and the telecommunications company. By investing in the development of journalists, MTN Ghana is helping to build a stronger, more informed media landscape, ultimately benefiting the citizens of Ghana.
