The "Reboot the
Earth Ethiopia" hackathon has officially been launched by Dr. Bayassa
Badada, State Minister of the Ministry of Innovation and Technology, at the
Ethiopia ICT Park-Innobiz-Innovation center. The event aims to harness the
power of technology to address climate change and promote the achievement of
the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The hackathon brings
together eleven teams of young innovators who will collaborate to develop
innovative solutions to tackle climate challenges. The intensive in-person
competition will last 30 hours, culminating in an award ceremony recognizing
the outstanding contributions of the teams.
The winning teams will
have the opportunity to showcase their groundbreaking solutions at the upcoming
OSPO for Good Symposium in New York, providing a valuable platform to
demonstrate the creativity and dedication of Ethiopian youth on the world
stage.
This initiative
emphasizes the vital role of young people in addressing climate change and
highlights the importance of digital public goods in achieving climate action.
The program unfolds across four key phases, with the hackathon being the first
phase, followed by mentorship, incubation, and acceleration of the winning
projects.
The "Reboot the
Earth Ethiopia" hackathon serves as a crucial platform to empower young
innovators, fostering a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship in the
country.
