Airtel Zambia PLC has marked
World Environment Day by planting 50 trees at Yotam Muleya School in Emmasdale,
Lusaka. The event, led by Managing Director Hussam Baday and Lusaka Mayor Her
Worship Ms. Chilando Chitangala, aims to promote land restoration and
desertification resilience.
The initiative is part of
Airtel Zambia's commitment to environmental sustainability, with a goal to
plant 350 trees in 30 schools across Lusaka. Mr. Baday emphasized the
importance of tree planting, citing the country's harsh dry season and crop
losses. The Mayor urged learners to protect trees and avoid cutting them for
charcoal, highlighting the detrimental effects on the environment.
This effort aligns with
the global theme for World Environment Day 2024, "Land restoration,
desertification, and drought resilience."
Airtel Zambia's
initiative sets an example for individuals and organizations to take action in
restoring the planet and promoting a cleaner, happier environment
