MTN South Africa's MTN8
Last Legend Standing initiative has given back to the community by providing a
platform for local youth to showcase their talent and skills at an annual
school cup tournament in Eshowe, Northern KwaZulu Natal.
The tournament saw
Derrick Spencer, a former Orlando Pirates player and 2023 MTN8 champion, emerge
as the winner, taking home the grand prize of R180,000. Spencer used the prize
money to support his annual sports festival, which aims to develop young talent
and promote community development.
According to Kholofelo
Magagane, Acting GM of Brand and Marketing at MTN SA, the MTN8 Last Legend
Standing initiative provides an invaluable opportunity for Legends to give back
to their communities. "The program
enables fans and young aspiring footballers to engage with legendary players on
a personal level, making a meaningful impact on communities and organizations
close to their hearts," Magagane said.
The MTN8 Legends have
shown remarkable dedication to their communities, with all eight Legends contributing
to causes within their former schools and other community charitable
organizations. The initiative has made a significant impact on the lives of
young people, providing them with opportunities to develop their skills and
pursue their passion for football.
