The Office of the Data
Commissioner, led by Immaculate Kassait, has launched a sensitization event and
roadshow in Kajiado County to raise awareness about data protection in the
region. The event, held in partnership with Kajiado East Member of Parliament
Hamisa Kakuta Maimai, aims to educate the public on the importance of
safeguarding personal information in the digital age.
Speaking at the event,
Data Commissioner Immaculate Kassait stressed the need for caution when sharing
personal data in daily life, particularly in the face of rapid technological
advancements. She also highlighted how online activities, such as social media,
online shopping, and search queries, can reveal sensitive information about
individuals, making them vulnerable to unauthorized data use.
"The
public needs to be aware of the risks associated with sharing personal data
online and take responsibility for protecting their information,"
Kassait urged. "By being mindful of
our online activities and taking necessary precautions, we can minimize the
risk of data breaches and ensure our personal information is used only for
intended purposes."
The awareness campaign
aims to empower individuals and organizations in Kajiado County to manage
personal data effectively, promoting a culture of data protection and
responsible handling of sensitive information. The roadshow will reach various
locations in the county, engaging with residents, businesses, and community
leaders to promote data protection awareness and best practices.
