A delegation from
Burundi, led by Ambassador Evelyne Habonimana, has visited Kenya to explore
opportunities for collaboration in the digital economy. The team, comprising
Principal Secretaries Ferdinand Manirakiza, Francine Inarukundo, and Emmanuel
Ngomirakizan, met with Eng. John Kipchumba Tanui, Principal Secretary - State
Department of ICT and Digital Economy, to discuss Kenya's digital
transformation journey.
The meeting aimed to
share Kenya's best practices in achieving digital transformation, with a focus
on the Digital Superhighway project. This initiative involves expanding 100,000
kilometers of fiber optic connections to over 80,000 institutions, homes, and
ICT hubs. Additionally, the project encompasses manufacturing affordable
smartphones, developing the semiconductor industry, and expanding Business
Process Outsourcing (BPO) services.
The delegation from
Burundi sought to learn from Kenya's experiences and expertise in digital
transformation, with the goal of replicating similar successes in their own
country. The meeting marked the beginning of a fruitful collaboration between
Kenya and Burundi in the digital economy, paving the way for future
partnerships and knowledge sharing.
This cooperation is
expected to foster economic growth, improve digital connectivity, and enhance
the livelihoods of citizens in both countries.
