MTN Benin has celebrated its 25th anniversary
and the 15th anniversary of the MTN Foundation with the launch of the YelloCare
2024 program on June 3rd. The event coincided with the official launch of the
YelloAquaEd project, aimed at improving education in So Ava, particularly in
the lakeside village of Vekky.
Throughout June, the MTN team, along with
partners Blolab Benin and IROKO FABLAB, built a three-classroom module that can
accommodate 120 students, two motorized boats to facilitate movement, and a
cyber-boat equipped with 20 computers for continuous digital training. Over 100
children participated in introductory robotics and programming workshops,
demonstrating MTN's commitment to digital inclusion.
The project's success was made possible
through partnerships with various organizations, including ONG TAMAEE, ADMEC
CTIB, Groupe Afrique, Plurielle Production, ECOBANK BENIN LIMITED, BANK OF
AFRICA BOA, Groupe Empire, Fondation Gnidehoue, Caisse des Dépots et
Consignations du BENIN, LKA, BOOKCONEKT, Huawei technologies Benin s.a, and
KMKNCatering. The community of So Ava, led by its mayor, also played a vital
role in the project's success.
On June 28, MTN Benin held a closing ceremony
to celebrate the achievements of the YelloAquaEd project. The event was
attended by the Ministry of Secondary, Technical and Vocational Education,
marking the commitment of all actors involved.
