The
Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, Mrs. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, has
hailed the significant progress made in the Girls-in-ICT program, which has
impacted the lives of 13,981 young girls across Ghana.
Speaking
at the climax event at the Cedi Conference Centre, University of Ghana, Legon,
the Minister acknowledged the transformative power of ICT and the need to
ensure girls are not left behind in the digital revolution.
The
program, which began as a modest one-day event, has grown into a powerful
initiative, empowering girls to explore and excel in ICT. This year's theme,
"Leadership," challenges gender stereotypes, builds confidence, and
encourages the development of crucial skills such as decision-making and
strategic thinking.
She
also recognized the support of institutions that have committed financial
resources to the initiative and encouraged current and potential sponsors to
envision their support as an investment in the future leaders of tomorrow.
The
Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon. Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus-Glover,
emphasized the importance of equipping girls with ICT skills, noting that it is
no longer a choice but a necessity in today's digital age. He praised the
program as a testament to the collective belief that gender should never be a
barrier to achieving one's dreams and aspirations.
The
event celebrated the achievements of 1,000 girls who received training in basic
ICT skills, coding, website development, game development, animation, e-safety,
computer programming, and scratch. The Minister and the Greater Accra Regional
Minister presented certificates to the girls, recognizing their efforts and
encouraging them to continue pursuing their passions in ICT.
