The
CEO of Mama Sugar Bakery, Monica Lewis is one of the many entrepreneurs
currently benefiting from this year’s MTN's SME Month exhibition. The event,
currently ongoing at the MTN Iconic House, is providing a unique platform for
small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) like Mama Sugar Bakery to showcase
their products and connect with customers.
The
exhibition is witnessing a variety of products exhibited for sale by SMEs,
showcasing the diverse range of entrepreneurial talent in Ghana. Monica
expressed her gratitude to MTN for the opportunity, stating, "MTN SME
Month has been wonderful. We've met a lot of our customers, made sales, and
received great feedback on our banana cake." She encouraged other SMEs
to join the platform, stressing the benefits of digitization and outreach
provided by MTN Ghana.

Beyond
the exhibition, Monica told Tech Review Africa in a brief
interview how she has also benefited from various digital solutions made
available by MTN. These solutions, she said have enabled her to create an
online presence, integrate e-commerce capabilities, utilize digital marketing
tools, streamline bookkeeping and accounting processes, gain valuable insights
into customer behaviour, and receive secure and efficient online payments.
By
leveraging these digital solutions, she has been able to expand her customer
base, increase sales, and efficiently manage her business operations, making
Mama Sugar Bakery one of the successful bakery in town.
A
peek through the exhibition stand at the MTN House reveals a wide range of
products leveraging MTN's digital solutions to drive their business. Aside from
the exhibition, these exhibitors have been taken through a series of workshops
by MTN Ghana's Business Solutions team to equip them with the right skills to
navigate digital platforms.
Meanwhile,
the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) has also commended MTN's efforts to
support SMEs, acknowledging the challenges addressed by their solutions, such
as bookkeeping and accounting. AGI appreciates MTN's commitment to digitizing
SMEs and is eager to collaborate for the success of this initiative. However,
the Greater Accra Chairman of the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), Tsonam
Akpelooo has called for the need to address the high cost of data, which
hinders online transactions, and urged policymakers to reconsider the E-levy,
which adds an extra burden to SMEs.
