The
Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) team, led by the
Chairperson and CEO Mothibu Ramusi, recently attended the tabling of the
2024/25 budget vote for the Department of Communications and Digital
Technologies in Cape Town.
During
the event, the Minister of the Department of Communications and Digital
Technologies, Solly Malatsi highlighted ICASA's plans to finalize the amended
Call Termination Regulations. The regulations aim to promote competition in the
industry, ultimately leading to lower call rates for consumers.
Additionally,
the Minister mentioned ICASA's plans to roll out the IMT Spectrum Roadmap. This
initiative aims to ensure better broadband access for all, promoting digital
inclusion and bridging the digital divide.
The
budget vote outlines the department's priorities and allocations for the
upcoming financial year.
The
amended Call Termination Regulations and the IMT Spectrum Roadmap are
significant steps towards promoting competition, affordability, and access to
digital services in South Africa. As the regulator for the communications
sector, ICASA plays a vital role in shaping the industry's future and ensuring
that it serves the needs of all South Africans.
