The Managing
Director of NIGCOMSAT, Jane Egerton-Idehen has reiterated the crucial role of
digital solutions in driving Africa's economic growth.
Speaking
at the just-ended 9th African Leadership Magazine Summit in London, themed
"Africa Unleashed: Navigating Disruptions, Enhancing Opportunity," which
brought together African leaders to discuss significant milestones and future
strategies, Jane Egerton-Idehen noted that historical development programs have
had mixed outcomes due to their top-down approach and lack of local
involvement.
However, according to her Africa has the potential to bypass traditional development
phases through technology. NIGCOMSAT, a Nigerian government-owned satellite
company, is committed to enhancing connectivity and fostering a digital economy
across the continent.
Egerton-Idehen
highlighted NIGCOMSAT's plans to launch another satellite in the coming years,
which will cover most of sub-Saharan Africa, stressing that the company's
dedication to bridging the digital divide and promoting inclusive growth,
empowering remote and underserved areas, and creating new economic
opportunities.
The
NIGCOMSAT chief called for collaboration to build an "Africa for
now," capable of navigating current disruptions and future opportunities.
She thanked African Leadership Magazine for providing a platform to share her
vision.
