The
Government Action Fair (SAGO) 2024, held in Yaoundé, featured a conference
dedicated to CAMTEL, Cameroon's national telecommunications operator. The event
highlighted CAMTEL's significant contributions to the country's digital
transformation, improving the lives of citizens and public services.
CAMTEL's
infrastructure heritage includes four submarine cables, 12,800 km of optical
fiber, a Tier 3 certified data center, and a robust network of fiber optic, 2G,
3G, and 4G mobile networks. This infrastructure has facilitated digitized
services, including online tax declarations and customs operations, in
collaboration with the Ministry of Public Service and Administrative Reform.
The
company's efforts in security are notable, with the deployment of public video
surveillance in major cities, comprising 3,000 cameras. Additionally, CAMTEL
has contributed to the creation of digital development centers in state
universities, enabling e-education.
According
to CAMTEL's Director General, Judith Yah Sunday, the company has played a
crucial role in Cameroon's telecommunications development over the past 25
years. Looking ahead, CAMTEL plans to digitalize Decentralized Territorial
Authorities, promote e-agriculture, and reposition community telecenters.
As a
partner of choice for connectivity in Central and West Africa, CAMTEL's
extensive network and access to international submarine cables position it as a
key player in the region's digital transformation.
