The
Responsible AI Lab at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (RAIL
KNUST) has hosted the Ghana Data Science Summit (IndabaX Ghana) 2024,
commemorating the event's 5th anniversary. The summit, held from July 17-19,
2024, at the Great Hall, KNUST, brought together approximately 600 participants
under the theme "Unleashing the Potential of AI through Grassroots
Engagement."
The
three-day event focused on empowering individuals and communities with the
knowledge and skills to harness the power of AI, with inspiring conversations
on Data Science, Machine Learning, and Artificial Intelligence. The summit's
history was recalled by Mr. Delali Agbenyegah, Co-Founder of Ghana Data Science
Summit, who highlighted the event's origin and its dedication to democratizing
data science literacy and building supportive communities.
Partnerships
and initiatives were announced, including the flagship IndabaXGhana mentorship
program, designed to engage and train people in hands-on projects, and the
"RAIL Biomass Challenge," showcasing innovative solutions and
data-driven strategies within AI. Prof. Jerry John Kponyo, Principal
Investigator and Scientific Director of RAIL, noted the critical
role of AI in driving the fourth industrial revolution, while Prof. Rita Akosua
Dickson, Vice-Chancellor of KNUST, stressed the need to train an AI-ready
workforce focusing on ethical AI.
The
summit demonstrated the importance of promoting responsible AI use and
empowering communities with the knowledge and skills to harness its power.
