The President
of Africa at Mastercard, Mark Elliott has announced a significant milestone in
the company's efforts to drive financial inclusion in Africa. Last week,
Mastercard signed a tripartite agreement with The National Identification
Office (ONECI) and fintech company Paynah in Côte d'Ivoire.
This
strategic collaboration aims to enable 8 million Ivorian citizens and residents
to access financial services and transact digitally, leveraging biometrics. The
agreement will not only digitize administrative services in Côte d'Ivoire but
also advance unique card offerings and innovative digital payment solutions,
empowering consumers and driving financial inclusion.
In
Sub-Saharan Africa, a significant portion of the population lacks
identification, excluding them from vital services, healthcare, government
programs, and the financial ecosystem. This agreement demonstrates Mastercard's
commitment to unlocking the possibilities of the digital world and driving
inclusive growth and prosperity in Côte d'Ivoire and across Africa.
By
leveraging technology and partnerships, Mastercard is working towards a more
inclusive and connected world, where everyone has access to the benefits of the
digital economy.
