African Union launches startup model law framework

The African Union (AU) has officially launched its comprehensive Startup Model Law Framework, marking a major step forward in addressing the key challenges and opportunities in Africa's rapidly growing tech landscape.

The launch was announced during a keynote address by H.E. Amb Albert Muchanga, Commissioner for Economic Development, Trade, Tourism, Industry and Minerals at the AU. Commissioner Muchanga highlighted the immense potential of the tech sector, stating, "The rapid growth of the tech sector signals a promising shift toward the 4th Industrial Revolution. With the right policies and private sector readiness, Africa stands ready to gain immensely from this revolution."

The Startup Model Law Framework is the result of a year-long collaboration between the AU and various stakeholders. It aims to create a conducive environment for startups to thrive, driving industrial development, deepening digitalization, and regional integration. The framework is expected to create a more connected, innovative, and efficient continental economy.
