Principal
Secretary for the State Department of ICT and Digital Economy, Eng. John
Kipchumba Tanui, has disclosed that the government of Kenya is committed to
creating an inclusive, secure, and innovative digital environment.
Speaking
during the opening ceremony of the Kenya Internet Governance Forum 2024 in
Nairobi, Eng Tanui noted the importance of collaboration in developing
frameworks that drive innovation, enhance cybersecurity, and ensure robust
infrastructure.
He
stressed the need for digital literacy to equip all Kenyans with necessary
skills to thrive in the digital space, and said the government committed to
strengthening the regulatory framework to safeguard data and protect citizens'
rights.
Kenya's
ambitious ICT program aims to establish new digital hubs, add 100,000
kilometers of fiber infrastructure, and make internet access a fundamental
right for all Kenyans. The Digital Economy in Kenya is growing rapidly, driven
by robust internet connectivity and emerging technologies like AI and IoT.
The
Principal Secretary called for collective expertise and resources to achieve
the vision of a secure, inclusive, and prosperous digital future for Kenya.
