Information
and Communication Technology (ICT) has the potential to boost Africa's economy
by $316 billion, according to Thelma Quaye, Director of Digital Infrastructure
Skills & Empowerment at Smart Africa. She made this statement during the
stakeholder consultative workshop for the Smart Women and Girls in ICT
Continental Blueprint, held in Kigali this year.
The
workshop brought together key stakeholders to discuss strategies for bridging
the digital gender divide and empowering women and girls in ICT. Smart Africa's
initiative aims to address the digital gender divide and unlock Africa's
economic potential by engaging women and girls in ICT.
The
potential economic benefits of bridging the digital gender divide are
significant. Increased participation of women and girls in ICT can lead to
substantial economic growth, development, job creation, and productivity.
Smart
Africa's initiative to develop a Continental Blueprint for Smart Women and
Girls in ICT aims to address the digital gender divide and unlock Africa's
economic potential. By empowering women and girls in ICT, Africa can tap into
the vast economic benefits and foster sustainable development and create new
opportunities for growth and innovation.
