The Minister
of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Tijani Bosun has commended
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the release of the official gazette,
'Designation and Protection of Critical National Information Infrastructure
Order, 2024'.
“I would like to appreciate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the
release of the official gazette, ‘Designation and Protection of Critical
National Information Infrastructure Order, 2024”, he said in a post on Linkedin.
This
landmark move has been hailed as a significant step towards strengthening and
protecting investments in the ICT sector. By designating and protecting
critical national information infrastructure, the administration aims to reduce
incidents capable of damaging technological systems, infrastructure, and
networks.
Dr.
Tijani applauded the President's commitment to securing and protecting Critical
National Information Infrastructure (CNII), indicating its importance in
improving the quality of telecoms services. The gazette makes it an offence to
wilfully damage essential assets, including telco towers, data centres, and
fibre optic cables.
The
Minister expressed his appreciation for the President's leadership in creating
an enabling environment for the digital economy to thrive.
“We will continue to work to create the enabling and supportive
environment and policies for our digital economy to thrive,” he added.
