The
MTN Group President and CEO, Ralph Mupita has indicated the importance of
adopting a strategic, top-down approach to building a digital economy, similar
to what we see in countries like India and Brazil. He made these remarks at the
just-ended MTN Group Editors' Roundtable, reflecting on MTN's 30-year journey
of impact across Africa.
Mr. Mupita also noted that countries like India and Brazil have made deliberate
decisions to create digital economies, enabling their populations to leapfrog
to more advanced stages of development and fostering a more resilient economy.
He cited examples of these countries' transition to cashless economies,
achieved through traditional strategies and enforced strict coverage
obligations.
Joining
Mupita was Tsholofelo Molefe, Group CFO, who provided profound insights into
several key areas, including remarks and insights into the H1 results, the
evolving operating environment for MTN, and the developments in AI and their
potential implications for Africa's future.
