The South
African National Space Agency (SANSA) has hosted the African Heads of Space
Agencies for a two-day meeting to discuss the implementation of a Pan-African
Space Programme, aligning with the African Union's call for strengthened
intra-African space cooperation.
The meeting was
followed by the National Space Conference (NSC) 2024, themed "Space
Science and Innovation for Sustainability," held in Pretoria from August
28th to 30th. The conference, organized by SANSA and NEOSS on behalf of the
Department of Science and Innovation (DSI), aimed to advance Africa's space
agenda and address global challenges such as water scarcity, food insecurity,
and environmental disasters.
The NSC 2024
featured keynote addresses, panel discussions, and technical sessions, focusing
on sustainability and the critical role of space science in achieving societal,
economic, and environmental progress. The conference also offered networking
opportunities, showcased innovations, and promoted equality, diversity,
inclusion, and access within the space science community.
