Africa’s
leading space expert and consultant, Dr. Zolana Joao, has commended the South
African National Space Agency (SANSA) as one of the most prominent and
well-equipped space agencies on the continent. Speaking at the National Space
Conference (NSC), held at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research
International Convention Centre (CSIR ICC) in the vibrant City of Tshwane, he
highlighted SANSA's robust space and ground infrastructure, which continues to
support the global space industry.
Addressing a
diverse gathering of stakeholders from across Africa, Dr. Joao noted that for
the continent to truly advance its space agenda, it requires a disciplined and
strategic approach. "Africa needs a strong focus on improving the use
of our existing space infrastructure and capabilities to address pressing
issues for our people," he remarked, urging the audience to prioritize
the development of Africa’s space assets for practical, real-world
applications.
He also
stressed the importance of fostering a unified vision for Africa's space
endeavors. "We need a unified understanding of the 'space language.'
Engaging with various heads of African space agencies reinforced our collective
commitment to pushing the African space program forward," he added.
The renowned
space expert extended his congratulations to SANSA's CEO, Humbulani Mudau, for
his exceptional leadership in organizing such an impactful and well-coordinated
event. "Thank you for the invitation and for gathering so many
brilliant minds from the South African space industry," Dr. Joao said,
recognizing Mudau’s efforts in driving SANSA's role as a leader in the African
space ecosystem.
In addition to
his participation in the conference, Dr. Joao took the opportunity to tour several
of South Africa's leading space facilities and research institutions. He noted
that this experience had further deepened his admiration for the nation's space
capabilities, adding that "the incredible potential of the South African
space ecosystem and its legacy are remarkable."
The National
Space Conference brought together key players from government, academia, and
industry to explore the future of space exploration and commercialization
across Africa, positioning the continent as a critical player in the global
space industry.
