The
Botswana Communications Regulatory Authority (BOCRA) has reaffirmed its
commitment to bridging the digital divide and promoting equal access to
technology with the official handover of a newly equipped ICT lab to
Struizendam Primary School. The initiative is part of BOCRA's broader mission
to foster educational opportunities and empower students in underserved
communities.
Speaking
at the handover ceremony, BOCRA's Chief Executive Officer, Martin Mokgware
emphasized the critical importance of technology in modern education and the
organization’s dedication to addressing the challenges posed by the digital
divide.
“At
BOCRA, we recognize that access to technology is no longer a luxury but a
necessity,” the CEO
stated. “We saw the need to support Struizendam Primary School in providing
students with the tools they need to succeed in an increasingly digital world.
This new ICT lab is more than just a facility—it is a gateway to endless
learning opportunities that will empower these young minds and prepare them for
the future.”
The
newly equipped ICT lab is expected to transform the educational landscape for
the students of Struizendam Primary School. With access to computers, internet
connectivity, and digital resources, the lab will enable students to develop
critical digital skills, explore online learning platforms, and gain exposure
to the world of technology that is shaping industries globally.
This
project is part of BOCRA's ongoing efforts to promote digital inclusivity and
ensure that no child is left behind in the pursuit of quality education. The
CEO highlighted the organization’s vision of creating equal opportunities for
every student, regardless of their geographic location or socio-economic
background.
The
handover ceremony was met with great excitement from the school’s staff,
students, and the local community, who expressed gratitude for the much-needed
support. For Struizendam Primary School, the ICT lab represents a
transformative step forward in their mission to provide holistic and
future-ready education to their students.
BOCRA’s
initiative aligns with Botswana’s national development agenda, which emphasizes
the importance of education and technology in driving socio-economic growth. By
investing in ICT infrastructure for schools, BOCRA is not only addressing the
immediate educational needs of students but also contributing to the nation’s
long-term vision of a digitally empowered society.
