Namibia’s
Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Emma Theofelus, has met
with Algeria’s Minister of Communication, H.E. Mohamed Meziane, to discuss
opportunities for strengthening bilateral ties and exploring new areas of
collaboration in the field of communication.
During
the meeting, Minister Theofelus expressed Namibia's readiness to deepen
cooperation in the management of press agencies, highlighting the importance of
sharing best practices to address the global challenges press agencies face
today. She reaffirmed Namibia’s commitment to fostering productive partnerships
that enhance the exchange of knowledge and resources between the two nations.
The
discussions build on longstanding bilateral agreements between Namibia and
Algeria, which focus on collaboration in press agency management. Both
ministers acknowledged the importance of these agreements in supporting the
development of robust communication channels and enhancing the dissemination of
accurate and timely information.
Minister
Meziane’s visit to Namibia was also notable for his role as a Special Envoy,
carrying an official letter from Algerian President H.E. Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
The letter sought Namibia’s support for Algeria’s candidacy for the
Chairmanship of the African Union Commission, signaling Algeria's continued
engagement with African partners to foster regional unity and leadership.
This
high-level engagement underscores the shared vision of both countries to
strengthen diplomatic ties while leveraging communication as a tool for
fostering development and cooperation across the continent. By exchanging
expertise and building on existing frameworks, Namibia and Algeria aim to set a
benchmark for collaborative efforts in addressing the evolving challenges in
the global media landscape.
