The
outgoing CEO of MTN Cameroon, Mitwa Kaemba Ng’ambi, has officially introduced
his successor, Wanda Matandela, to Prof. Philémon Zoo Zame, the Director
General of the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (ART). The meeting, held
ahead of the official handover on March 1, 2025, marked a significant moment in
the leadership of MTN Cameroon, a telecommunications giant in the country.
Mitwa
Kaemba Ng’ambi, who has served as the CEO of MTN Cameroon with distinction, was
warmly received by Prof. Zoo Zame, where the two leaders praised the
"frank and open" collaboration between the regulatory authority and
MTN Cameroon. In an emotional address, Ng’ambi reflected on his tenure and
expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to lead MTN in Cameroon,
acknowledging the challenges and triumphs experienced during his leadership. She
spoke of the strong partnership with local authorities and stakeholders,
particularly in advancing the digital transformation of the country. Ng’ambi
will soon transition to his new role as the CEO of MTN Côte d'Ivoire,
continuing his leadership in the MTN Group.
The
new CEO of MTN Cameroon, Wanda Matandela, who was officially promoted on
December 18, 2024, will take over leadership responsibilities starting March 1,
2025. Mr. Matandela is an accomplished South African executive, holding a
Bachelor of Commerce, an MBA, and a Master’s degree in Information Systems. He
comes to MTN Cameroon with an impressive track record in the telecommunications
and technology sectors, and his appointment marks a new chapter for MTN
Cameroon as it strives to contribute even further to the country’s ongoing
digital transformation.
During
the meeting, Wanda Matandela shared his vision for MTN Cameroon’s future,
focusing on strengthening the company’s role in driving the nation’s digital
transformation. He emphasized hIS commitment to ensuring that MTN Cameroon
continues to improve its services while considering the well-being of the local
population.
Prof.
Philémon Zoo Zame, the DG of ART, praised Mitwa Kaemba Ng’ambi for his
professionalism and leadership at MTN Cameroon, recognizing the significant
contributions the company has made to the Cameroonian telecommunications
ecosystem. He acknowledged the critical role MTN plays in enhancing
connectivity and access to services for Cameroonians.
Looking
ahead, Prof. Zoo Zame also emphasized the expectations for 2025, a year that
promises to be transformative for Cameroon’s telecommunications sector. Among
the key objectives are improving the quality of service (QoS) provided by
telecom operators, launching the 5G network, and successfully executing a
three-year investment plan worth approximately 300 billion CFA francs. This
ambitious plan was announced during the visit of MTN Group’s CEO, Ralph Mupita,
in December 2024.
