The
Director of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) Regional Office – West
Africa, Ms. Lena Leumer, has paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor of the
University of Ghana (UG), Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, to explore avenues for
strengthening partnerships between the University and German institutions.

Ms.
Leumer, who now oversees DAAD activities across Ghana, Nigeria, and Cameroon, noted
the importance of her new role in fostering deeper collaborations between
German and African universities. She emphasized that the expanded DAAD regional
office would provide stronger oversight and support to country offices,
ensuring that educational and research partnerships become more impactful.
Prof.
Amfo, in welcoming Ms. Leumer back to Ghana, congratulated her on her new
appointment and commended DAAD for its unwavering commitment to supporting
students and faculty at UG. She acknowledged DAAD’s significant contributions
to Africa’s academic landscape, particularly in research funding and capacity
building. The Vice-Chancellor reaffirmed UG’s dedication to cultivating
mutually beneficial partnerships and assured Ms. Leumer of the University’s
continued engagement with DAAD in advancing higher education and research.

Also
present at the meeting was the Director of Public Affairs, Dr. (Mrs.) Elizier
Taiba Ameyaw-Buronyah, who reiterated the University’s commitment to fostering
international collaborations. She noted that UG’s partnership with DAAD aligns
with Priority 4 of its 2024-2029 Strategic Plan, which focuses on engagement
and partnerships.
