In a momentous
achievement for Ghana, Ambassador Amma A. Twum-Amoah has been elected as the
African Union (AU) Commissioner for Health, Humanitarian Affairs, and Social
Development. The announcement, made in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, marks a
significant milestone for Ghana’s diplomatic efforts and underscores the
country’s growing influence on the continental stage.
Ambassador
Twum-Amoah’s emphatic victory is a testament to her distinguished career and
unwavering commitment to public service. Her election to this prestigious
position reflects the confidence that African nations have in her ability to
lead critical initiatives in health, humanitarian affairs, and social
development across the continent.
The victory
comes as Ghana continues to campaign vigorously for additional positions within
the African Union. Sam Okudzeto Ablakwa, Ghana’s newly appointed Foreign
Minister, expressed his elation at the outcome, stating, “Ghana didn’t come
here to play. We are campaigning vigorously, and tomorrow we shall aim to win
two more positions. Ghana’s flag shall soar higher.”
Ambassador
Twum-Amoah’s election is a proud moment for Ghana and a strong start to
Ablakwa’s tenure as Foreign Minister. “I couldn’t have prayed for a better
start to my new role as Ghana’s Foreign Minister,” Ablakwa remarked. “Congratulations
to the distinguished Ghanaian diplomat, Ambassador Amma A. Twum-Amoah. I know
she will make Ghana prouder.”
As the newly
elected AU Commissioner, Ambassador Twum-Amoah will play a pivotal role in
addressing some of the continent’s most pressing challenges. Her portfolio will
include leading efforts to improve healthcare systems, respond to humanitarian
crises, and promote social development initiatives that uplift communities
across Africa.
Ambassador
Twum-Amoah’s extensive experience in diplomacy and her deep understanding of
Africa’s socio-economic landscape position her as a transformative leader for
this role. Her election is expected to bring renewed energy and innovative
solutions to the AU’s efforts in these critical areas.
As Ghana
prepares to campaign for additional positions within the African Union, the
government is calling on all stakeholders to rally behind its candidates. The
success of Ambassador Twum-Amoah serves as a reminder of what can be achieved
through unity, determination, and a shared vision for progress.
“This is just
the beginning,” Foreign Minister Ablakwa
emphasized. “We are committed to securing more victories for Ghana and
ensuring that our nation continues to play a leading role in shaping Africa’s
future.”
