The Minister
for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Sam George has
inaugurated an Inter-Agency Data Pricing Committee. The committee's primary
task is to assess prevailing pricing models and make recommendations to reduce
the cost of data.
Comprising
representatives from various key sectors, including the Ministry of Finance,
Energy, NCA, PURC, Chamber Telecommunications, and other stakeholders, the
committee has been given 14 working days to produce a roadmap that will lead to
affordable internet access for all citizens.
The
inauguration ceremony was attended by notable figures, including the Chief
Director, Alexander Yaw Arphul, and Director, General Administration, Alfred
Nortey.
This initiative
is a response to concerns from the public about high internet tariffs. The
committee's recommendations are expected to pave the way for reduced data
prices, making internet access more inclusive and driving socio-economic
development in Ghana.
With the
committee's roadmap expected by March 6, 2025, Ghanaians can look forward to
more affordable internet access, bridging the digital divide and unlocking
opportunities for growth and innovation.
