Ghana’s
Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has participated
in the International Ministers Summit at the Prospectors & Developers
Association of Canada (PDAC) Convention, the world’s premier event for the
mineral exploration and development community. Held in Toronto, Canada, the
summit provided a platform for Ghana to showcase its progressive policies,
highlight investment opportunities, and reinforce its position as a leading
destination for mining investment in Africa.
The event
culminated in a special honor for Minister Buah, who participated in the closing
bell ceremony for the Toronto Stock Exchange on March 3, 2025. This symbolic
gesture underscored Ghana’s commitment to fostering global partnerships and
attracting investment to its mining sector.
During the
summit, the minister emphasized the Ghanaian government’s commitment to
creating a conducive environment for mining investment. He highlighted key
policies aimed at promoting sustainable mining practices, ensuring
environmental stewardship, and maximizing the socio-economic benefits of the
sector for all Ghanaians.
“Ghana is open
for business,” declared Minister Buah. “Our
mining sector is not only rich in resources but also ripe with opportunities
for growth and collaboration. We are committed to working with investors,
industry leaders, and stakeholders to ensure that mining contributes to
sustainable development and shared prosperity.”
Ghana is one of
Africa’s leading producers of gold, bauxite, manganese, and diamonds. The
country’s stable political environment, transparent regulatory framework, and
commitment to responsible mining practices make it an attractive destination
for global investors. Mr. Buah also stated the government’s efforts to
diversify the mining sector, including the development of green minerals such
as lithium, which are critical for the global energy transition.
He then outlined
Ghana’s forward-thinking policies, including the Mining Local Content and Local
Participation Regulations, which ensure that Ghanaians benefit from the sector
through job creation, skills development, and local procurement.
The summit
provided a platform to showcase Ghana’s vast mineral resources and untapped
potential.
“Our goal is to
create a mining sector that is a catalyst for economic transformation,” said Minister Buah. “By leveraging our resources responsibly
and fostering partnerships, we can unlock the full potential of our mining
industry and create lasting value for our people.”
“The future of
Ghana’s mining sector is bright. We are excited about the opportunities for
growth and collaboration, and we invite the world to join us on this journey,” he added.
