MTN Ghana and
the Ministry of Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovation have signed a Memorandum
of Understanding (MoU) at Mobile World Congress 2025 (MWC25) in Barcelona. The
agreement aims to enhance digital skills, support artificial intelligence (AI)
development, and strengthen data governance and cybersecurity for young
Ghanaians, marking a significant step toward building a robust digital
ecosystem in the country.
The partnership,
according to a statement reflects MTN’s commitment to supporting Ghana’s
socio-economic objectives and empowering the next generation of tech leaders.
The signing ceremony was attended by Ralph Mupita, MTN Group President and CEO,
and Hon. Samuel Nartey George, Ghana’s Minister of Communications, Digital
Technology, and Innovation, who both emphasized the transformative potential of
the collaboration.

Under the MoU,
MTN Ghana will play a pivotal role in advancing Ghana’s digital agenda by
fostering talent development, promoting AI innovation, and enhancing
cybersecurity measures.
Ralph Mupita,
MTN Group President and CEO, highlighted the importance of investing in local
talent and digital infrastructure to drive socio-economic growth. “We are
very happy to support the building out of the digital ecosystem that will be a
catalyst for growth and expansion to meet Ghana’s socio-economic objectives,”
he said. “We must develop our own talent, our own software engineers, and do
more around coding to ensure that young people in Ghana have opportunities not
only in Ghana but all over the world.”

The minister Samuel
Nartey George also in his remark emphasized the transformative impact of the
partnership on Ghana’s digital landscape. “This collaboration with MTN is a
significant milestone in our journey toward digital transformation. The MTN
building, which will serve as a center of excellence for AI and software
development, is a testament to our shared commitment to innovation and youth
empowerment. We are excited to work together to launch the One Million Coders
program and create opportunities for young Ghanaians to excel in the digital
economy.”
At the heart of
the partnership is a commitment to empowering Ghana’s youth and unlocking their
potential to drive innovation and economic growth. By providing access to
digital skills training, AI development resources, and cybersecurity expertise,
the initiative aims to create a generation of tech-savvy individuals who can
contribute to Ghana’s digital transformation and compete on the global stage.
